If I could rewrite the ending of any book, I would choose Romeo and Juliet.
Honestly, the ending has always frustrated me. Two young people fall deeply in love, survive family drama, secret meetings, sword fights, and enough confusion to fill an entire television series—only for everything to end because nobody communicated properly!
In my version, Juliet would wake up just a few minutes earlier. Romeo would pause before making such a permanent decision, and Friar Laurence would finally arrive on time instead of showing up when everything had already gone terribly wrong.
Romeo and Juliet would escape Verona, move somewhere far away from their feuding families, and begin a peaceful life together. Of course, after a few months of marriage, they might discover that romance is easier when you are meeting secretly on balconies than when someone leaves their clothes all over the floor—but at least they would be alive to argue about it!
Their families would eventually realize how foolish the feud had been, apologize, and come together for one big, slightly awkward family dinner.
The original ending is powerful and unforgettable, but I would happily exchange some of the tragedy for better communication, forgiveness, and a happy ending.
Sometimes, all a story needs is love, patience, and someone willing to say, “Wait—let us talk about this first!”
