Have you ever started a book, never finished it, but somehow it still stayed in your mind? For me, that book is The Body Keeps the Score by Dr. Bessel van der Kolk.
I didn’t finish the book—yes, I’m confessing publicly! 😂—but what I read was so interesting and thought-provoking that I still think about it.
The book explores how traumatic and stressful experiences can affect not only our thoughts and emotions, but also our bodies. It helped me understand that what we have been through can keep influencing how we react, feel, and even relate to others long after the experience is over.
One thing I especially appreciated is the connection the book makes between the brain, the body, and our experiences. It reminds us that understanding our past can sometimes help us better understand our present.
I think The Body Keeps the Score can be a valuable read for adults and older teens who want to learn more about trauma, emotional well-being, and how our brains respond to difficult life experiences. Some parts can be heavy, so it may not be an easy read for everyone—but it is certainly eye-opening.
Will I ever go back and finish it? I hope so! For now, it remains proudly on my list of “books I didn’t finish but somehow won’t leave me alone.” 😂
Sometimes a book doesn’t have to be finished to leave an impression.
Stay Blessed!
