What is your favorite place to go in your city?
A serene pathway in Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia, featuring historic brick houses, lush greenery, and benches, inviting visitors to enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

If there’s one place in Williamsburg, Virginia that instantly puts me in a good mood, it’s Colonial Williamsburg — but not the busy tourist part. I’m talking about the quiet little walkways, hidden gardens, and peaceful corners that most people rush past.

I call it my “slow-down spot.”
It’s where I go when I want to escape the noise, breathe fresh air, and pretend life is simple for a moment.

There’s something magical about strolling past the old brick houses, hearing the clip-clop of the horses, and seeing people dressed like they’re living in the 1700s. It feels like stepping straight into a movie set! And the best part? You don’t even need to buy a ticket to enjoy the outdoor beauty — you can wander, explore, and take Instagram-worthy pictures for free.

My favorite little things to do there?

Sit on the benches near the Governor’s Palace gardens — peaceful and perfect for thinking
Peek into the cute shops along Duke of Gloucester Street
Watch families take carriage rides like it’s still 1775
Grab a refreshing drink or snack and people-watch

It’s fun, relaxing, and packed with history — but without feeling overwhelming. Every time I visit, I learn something new, or I just feel… calmer. And in my busy schedule, finding a place that helps me breathe again is pure gold.

So if you’re ever in Williamsburg and you need a moment to reset your mind or feel inspired, take a walk through Colonial Williamsburg. Trust me — it never disappoints.

Peace!

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
