It was supposed to be a calm flight from Asaba to Lagos — a routine trip, nothing unusual. But somewhere high above the clouds, that calm shattered when Nigerian social critic Very Dark Man (VDM) and media personality Mr Jollof found themselves face-to-face… and things took a dramatic turn.
Passengers say the tension started the moment VDM boarded the aircraft and spotted Mr Jollof seated just a few rows ahead. What followed has now become one of the most talked-about moments on Nigerian social media.
According to VDM, he approached Mr Jollof and said, “Today you go slap me oo.” A statement he claimed was not a threat, but a challenge — one rooted in months of online disagreement and unresolved personal issues. Within seconds, voices rose, bodies shifted, and the first punch was allegedly thrown.
Shouts filled the cabin.
Passengers sat in shock.
Flight attendants rushed down the aisle to separate the two.
Several eyewitnesses recorded the incident, and in those shaky videos, you can see the chaotic moment when heated words turned into physical confrontation. People tried to intervene, but the confined space of the aircraft made everything feel even more intense.
VDM later released a video giving his account of the incident, insisting that he did not start the fight but only confronted Mr Jollof verbally. His claims, however, are now being examined alongside eyewitness reports and flight crew statements.
Aviation authorities have also taken interest. Under Nigerian Civil Aviation laws, any form of violence or disruption onboard an aircraft is a serious offense and can lead to fines, sanctions, or even jail time. With both men being public figures, the spotlight has only grown brighter.
For many Nigerians, this incident highlights a bigger issue: how online beef can quickly turn into real-life conflict — and how dangerous that can be when it happens thousands of feet in the air.
As social media continues to debate who was right or wrong, one thing is clear: this fight has shaken the internet, sparked conversations, and reminded everyone that actions carry consequences — especially in the sky.

Was it ego, built-up tension, or a moment of impulsive reaction?
