One of the best pieces of advice my mother ever gave me was simple: “My daughter, always have your own money.”
You know Nigerian mothers—they may say it casually, but there is usually a full life lesson hiding inside the sentence!
As I got older, I understood her better. Having your own money means freedom, confidence, and avoiding unnecessary “Please, can you send me small something?” every five minutes.
Mama taught me to work hard, save what I can, and never completely depend on anybody.
Because, as we say, person wey get small money for pocket dey breathe differently!
So yes, love people, support people, enjoy life—but abeg, keep your own small emergency money somewhere. Mama knew what she was talking about!
Stay Blessed!
