Dot is engineered to transport a maximum weight of 30 pounds (approximately six large pizzas) and can attain speeds of up to 20 mph in suitable conditions. Its design, which is roughly one-tenth the dimensions of a standard automobile, seeks to strike a balance between visibility (to deter vandalism) and maneuverability within local neighborhoods.

However, Dot is not the sole robotic entity within DoorDash’s operational framework. For denser, urban sidewalk implementations, DoorDash has established a partnership with Coco Robotics. In metropolitan areas such as Los Angeles and Chicago, compact “icebox-style” sidewalk robots are utilized to manage deliveries from DashMart and adjacent stores. This hybrid model—comprising human couriers, sidewalk robots, road-capable robots, and even drones—embodies DoorDash’s commitment to strategically optimizing delivery routes by employing the most efficient delivery method available.
