As a Yoruba lady from Ibadan, one piece of cultural heritage I’m most proud of is our deep-rooted storytelling tradition. From moonlight folktales told in the compound to proverbs that carry wisdom in just a few words, Yoruba culture has taught me that stories are not just entertainment—they are lessons, guidance, and memory keepers.
I’m equally fascinated by our Aso-Oke fabric, woven with pride and worn during life’s most important moments such as wedding engagements, coronations, and birthday ceremonies. It’s not just cloth—it’s history, creativity, and identity stitched together.
When I think of home, I think of hot Amala with ewedu and gbegiri from Ibadan, laughter in the streets and marketplace, and the rhythm of talking drums from the owabe parties, that seem to echo the heartbeat of our people. This is the heritage that shapes me, and it’s one I will always celebrate.
Please follow for some of my folktales stories I post from time to time.
Peace!
