Daily writing prompt
Tell us about your first day at something — school, work, as a parent, etc.

There are certain days in life you simply never forget—and the first day I became a parent sits at the top of that list. It’s the kind of moment that shakes your world, rearranges your priorities, and fills your heart with an emotion so big that words can barely hold it.

I still remember that day vividly. The joy was overwhelming. The happiness was indescribable. But somewhere underneath that mountain of excitement was a tiny, whispering fear:
“Will I be a good parent?”
Because no matter how many books you read, how many aunties advise you, or how many YouTube videos you watch about swaddling a newborn, nothing truly prepares you for the real journey.

A Heart Full of Love… and Questions

The moment I held my child, I felt an instant, fierce love—but also a wave of questions that pushed their way into my mind:

  • Do I have what it takes?
  • Will I understand their needs?
  • Can I protect them from the world?
  • What if I make mistakes?
  • How do I raise a confident, emotionally healthy child?

It’s funny how parenthood works. Your heart expands with love, and at the same time, your mind fills with uncertainty. Happiness wrapped tightly with fear—that’s the true initiation.

Navigating the Hurdles

As the days passed, I began to realize something profound:
Parenting isn’t a test you pass—it’s a journey you grow through.

From sleepless nights to first fevers, from toddler tantrums to first day of school tears, every stage came with its own challenges. There were moments I questioned myself and moments I was proud of myself. There were days I felt like a super-parent and days I felt like I needed a manual, a mentor, and maybe even a miracle.

But somehow, grace always showed up.
Strength always returned.
And love always led the way.

Looking Back Now…

When I look back at that fearful yet joyful beginning, I can only smile.
Because everything I was afraid of, God helped me navigate.

I didn’t need to be a perfect parent—just a present one.
I didn’t need every answer—just the willingness to learn along the way.
And every time I worried I wasn’t doing enough, my child’s growth, laughter, and love reminded me that I was doing just fine.

Parenthood has stretched me, shaped me, and taught me lessons I never knew I needed. And through it all, I am grateful—truly grateful.

A Quiet Thank You

Today, as I think of that very first day, all I can say is:
Thank You, Lord, for how far You’ve brought me.

For the courage I didn’t know I had.
For the patience I learned along the way.
For the joy tucked inside even the hardest moments.
And for the privilege of raising a child—one of life’s most sacred assignments.

I started this journey with trembling hands and a hopeful heart.
Now, looking back, I am filled with nothing but gratitude.

Peace!

Quote of the week

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
