Late Muhammadu Buhari was a Nigerian politician who was the president of Nigeria from 2015 to 2023. He was a major general in the Nigerian army and served as the military head of state from December 31, 1983, to August 27, 1985.

Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari was buried in his hometown in the north, with thousands of people gathering to say farewell.

Buhari passed away at the age of 82 on Sunday in London after facing an unknown illness that had kept him away from public life since he left office in 2023.

Buhari was a significant leader in Nigeria, ruling the country twice: once as a military dictator and later as a democratic president. His time in office was affected by serious health issues that required him to travel abroad for medical care.

His legacy includes severe restrictions on human rights, economic policies that kept the country isolated, and increasing insecurity.

He took power in a coup in 1983 and lost it two years later. He won presidential elections in 2015 and 2019, becoming the second-longest serving leader in Nigeria.

Current President Bola Tinubu and various regional leaders were present at the event. Senegal’s President Bassirou Faye called Buhari an important figure in Nigerian and African politics.
