I just had a realization recently. I discovered that when I am home, I am alone most of the time as my teenage children spend more time alone in their space doing their thing apart from mealtimes and morning hugs and random hugs during the day. So, I discovered that I spend most of my time alone.
This got me thinking…..
As a mother, we build our world around our children from birth, and sometimes we forget that as they grow older, they attain a level of independence from us and need less of our time. Believe it or not, they must explore the world with our guidance. Unfortunately, their level of freedom creates a vacuum for the mother.
I discovered that most of my daily activities are attached to my children, so their independence, though good, created boredom for me.
WAYS TO DEAL WITH BOREDOM`
- REDISCOVER YOURSELF
See this time as a blessing and use it to discover yourself. For example, when caring for children, most women shift their focus from their aspirations and dreams to caring for them. So, use this time to chase your dreams reasonably, pursue a career, return to school, or start a business or side hustle.
- SELF CARE
I cannot overemphasize self-care. I join the gym which is a mean to destress and reconnect with myself. Use this time to dedicate time for yourself, enjoy a bubble bath or facial scrub, enjoy a spa day, read books, or watch movies you have put on hold for a long time. Sleep more.
- BOND WITH YOUR SPOUSE
Use this time to enjoy time with your spouse/partner, communicate more, go on date nights, and travel to your bucket list destination if possible.
- TIME TO SAVE
This might not sound necessary, but take this time to assess your long-term time-saving goal and increase your savings. Then, you can look for a viable investment and invest.
It has not been an easy journey, but I am enjoying my newfound time, space, and freedom.
My children remain my number one priority as I make myself available for them. Remember to love your life and enjoy peace!
