Lagos has witnessed yet another building collapse, this time on Modupeola Street, Mangoro, Alimosho, where a two-storey structure under construction gave way around 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

According to the Lagos State Government, six construction workers were trapped, but all were successfully rescued. Five victims were treated at a nearby private hospital, while one man with fractures and bruises was taken by the Lagos State Ambulance Service to LASUTH Surgical Emergency, where he remains in stable condition.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that the collapsed structure was originally a bungalow being converted into a two-storey building, even as people continued living on the ground floor. Officials said the collapse affected the rear section of the property.

The building has since been sealed by the Lagos State Building Control Agency as investigations continue.

This incident comes barely two weeks after another tragic collapse in Ebute Meta that claimed four lives, sparking renewed calls for stricter enforcement of building regulations across the state.
