Daily writing prompt
Are you a good judge of character?

I’ve realized something about myself—I may not be a detective, a therapist, or a mind reader, but when it comes to judging character? Oh, I clock vibes faster than bad Wi-Fi in a basement.

Some people read palms.
Some people read birth charts.
Me? I read energy.

The moment someone opens their mouth, my spirit is already taking notes, like, “Hmm… interesting tone. Slight side-eye. Possible red flag.”

You see, I’ve learned that you can tell a lot about a person by how they respond to you, not just what they say. Are they warm? Defensive? Overly familiar? Acting like we’ve known each other since primary school when we just met five minutes ago? 👀

Because let me tell you—vibes don’t lie. Words can audition for an Oscar, but energy always tells the truth.

I can sense character in the little things:

  • How do you respond when I say “no”
  • Whether you listen or just wait for your turn to talk
  • If your kindness disappears the moment there’s nothing to gain
  • And most importantly… how you treat people who can’t do anything for you

Some people smile, but their energy says, “I will stress you later.”
Others don’t talk much, but their presence says, “You are safe here.”

And don’t get me wrong—I’ve been wrong before. There were times I ignored my instincts because I wanted to be nice, polite, or “give grace.” Spoiler alert: my gut was right, and I paid school fees for the lesson.

Now? I trust my discernment more. If your vibe feels off, I don’t argue with it. I don’t investigate. I simply create emotional distance with a smile.

Being a good judge of character doesn’t mean being suspicious of everyone—it just means being honest with yourself about how people make you feel.

So yes, I may not know your life story, but if your energy is chaotic, dismissive, or draining, my spirit will quietly whisper,
“Ah. This one is for greetings only.”

And that, my friend, is growth.

Peace!

Quote of the week

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
