The sun was setting on a lonely road when a traveler was attacked by thieves. They stripped him of his belongings, beat him until he could barely move, and left him bleeding in the dust.

Soon, a priest passed by. He saw the man but quickly looked away, crossing to the other side of the road. Not long after, a Levite came along. He, too, noticed the wounded man—but he hurried past, unwilling to be delayed.

Then came a Samaritan. To the Jews, Samaritans were outcasts, people not to be trusted. Yet when this Samaritan saw the stranger lying helpless, his heart was moved with compassion. He knelt down, cleaned the man’s wounds, and gently lifted him onto his own donkey. He brought him to an inn, cared for him through the night, and even paid the innkeeper to continue his recovery.

The man who should have been considered “the enemy” became the true neighbor.

Lesson: Love is not about who deserves it. Real love sees pain and responds with compassion. True kindness crosses boundaries and reflects the very heart of God. Luke 10:25–37,
