Daily writing prompt
How are you creative?

People often think creativity lives only in fancy art galleries or with musicians who strum guitar strings as if they’re negotiating peace treaties with their emotions. But me? My own creativity is wrapped up—quite literally—in balls of yarn. Yes, my friend, I am a knitter, and that’s where my creativity shines brightest. If creativity had a passport, mine would be stamped with “Wool, Needles, and Proud of It.”

Knitting is my superpower. Some people run marathons; I run out of yarn and still pretend I’m fine.

There’s something magical about taking a harmless-looking ball of yarn and turning it into a scarf, blanket, hat, or that “thing” I started at 11:45 p.m. and still haven’t figured out what it will become. That’s the beauty of creativity—you don’t always know what you’re making, but you look busy and productive while doing it!

Knitting also makes me feel like a quiet genius. I sit there looping and stitching, and people walk by saying, “Wow, I could never do that!” Meanwhile, I’m just trying to remember whether I was knitting, purling, or freestyling my way into a yarn disaster. But I smile like a master artist anyway.

And let’s be honest: knitting has saved many people from hearing what I really wanted to say. You can’t argue too much when your hands are busy counting stitches. “Say what you like, I’m on row 27… and peace be with you.”

Creativity shows up in how I choose colors, patterns, and projects. Some days I’m soft pastels; other days I’m bold, bright, and screaming, “Notice me!” My knitting basket is basically my mood ring.

But here’s the best part: creativity isn’t about perfection. I have dropped stitches, made lopsided scarves, and knitted sweaters that only fit the person in my imagination. Still, I call it “abstract fashion” and keep it moving. Real creatives don’t make mistakes—we simply create limited editions.

So how am I creative?

I take yarn and turn it into warmth.
I take quiet moments and turn them into art.
I take stress and knit it into peace (and sometimes into a very long scarf).

Creativity isn’t only painting like Picasso or singing like Beyoncé. Sometimes, it’s you, your needles, your yarn, and your decision not to unravel your whole project… or your life.

And if anyone asks, “What’s so creative about knitting?” just smile and say:

“Watch me turn this yarn into something beautiful—one stitch, one laugh, and one cup of tea at a time.”

Peace!

Quote of the week

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
